The concept of the death drive is above all a concept of primary destructiveness which has been the subject of a complex and controversial history. Through several theoretical references (Spielrein, Tausk, Ferenczi), clinical accounts and literary works, the author traces an evolution of the concept of death drive from its first uses in World War I to the present day.
