The Blinkers of Medical Mythology

By Danièle Brun
English

The expression “the blinkers of medical mythology” does not have a polemical purpose, it suggests the necessary ignorance in which the doctor stands, with fantasmatic touchstones that organize his relationship with the sufferer and stem from human sexuality. Based on Jacques Lacan’s contribution with the mirror stage, it is possible to examine the psychical stakes of the doctor/sufferer relationship. We can see that the images of fragmentation provided by medicine, notably with medical imagery, reactive the repressed image of the sufferer’s child-body, which is both a dependant body and a body lacking in coordination. The doctor’s words entail, on this occasion, stakes in the specular dimension.
